Understand what researchers mean by the term research gap
Develop the motivation of your thesis
Develop the research gap of your thesis
1. Understand the RyT-research cycle
It is important that your topic is interesting to you, but you will also have to make sure it is academically relevant. To do so, you must have clearly defined your topic by outlining the fundamentals of every good research article. These fundamentsal are:
The motivation for your thesis.
The research problem and gap that are investigated.
The research question(s) that should be answered.
The methods used to answer the reserach question and close the research gap.
The fundamentals are included in every (good) thesis as well as in every research article. Thus, we developed the steps of our Playbook according to these fundamentals (see, Figure below).
It is important that you understand the interplay between these four fundamentals. Hence, we have created our Rock your Thesis Research Cycle (see, Figure bellow) which you can download in the Downloads and External Resources Section. In the upcoming process of the Playbook, we will explain and develop the individual elements for your own thesis.
How do motivation, research gap, research question and research methods intertwine?
How can you motivate your thesis topic? Are there currently publicly discussed trends/innovations/issues?
How do you identify research gaps? In which type of articles and sections are they usually described?
